The project operates under a licence issued by the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) which contains stringent conditions to ensure any harm to the surrounding environment is minimised.

LAO views its environmental obligations seriously and has placed a strong emphasis in designing in the appropriate environmental controls from construction phase.  Particular focus has been placed on the control of runoff from the plant and heap leach areas.  All leach pads, ponds and the storm water dam are lined with high density polyurethane (“HDPE”) plastic to ensure no solutions can leak into the local water table.  An extensive network of monitoring bores is used to monitor the water table as an added safeguard.

Sedimentation dams have been established down stream from all disturbed areas such as mining pits, ROM pad and waste dumps to ensure run off from the project area does not cause any sedimentation issues in natural water courses.
